This weeks 21 Questions installment is club stalwart Daren Diggs – a member of our Premier coaching staff.

  1. What is your full name? Daren Thomas Diggs
  2. Where we your born? Christchurch
  3. What is your favourite place in New Zealand? Queenstown
  4. What do you like to do to relax? A nice cold beer and a good game of footy on the box
  5. What is your signature cooking/baking dish? Bacon and egg pie
  6. What do you do for a job? I’m a Project Manager for Armitage Contracting
  7. Are you a fan of the proposed new NZ flag or the current flag? Everyone’s got their own views but I’m happy with what our Grandparents fort for, seems like a lot of money that could have been spent where it is really needed.
  8. What is the best compliment you have ever received? No mistaking that boys yours (Conrad) which always pisses his mum off
  9. What is your favourite thing about Rugby League? The life long friendships you make.
  10. If you weren’t playing Rugby League, what sport would you play? Maybe a bit of soccer, did play a few games for the 1st eleven at high school
  11. Who introduced you to playing for the Hornets? One of my school mates started off at Marist as they were Dads team
  12. How long have you been playing for the Hornets? To long to remember the years just melt into one
  13. How many years have you played Premiers? I started when I was 19 and played my last when I was 35 with a few years over seas and injuries in between and still getting the odd call up for Bs
  14. What position do you play? Hooker, 2nd row, and standoff
  15. What position would you like to play? I was always a halfback in a forwards body!!
  16. Who is the “dark horse” for the Hornets this season? Big Ben
  17. Who do you think will win the Premiers Player of the Year Award in 2016? Pretty early to tell but there is some good new talent floating round this year and going by our recent trial we have got some good boys coming up from our18 year old side from last year so watch this space!
  18. Who do you think will win the 2016 CRL Grand Final? On paper Papanui hands down but finals aren’t won on paper so have to say the mighty Hornets
  19. Who will win the NRL in 2016? Bulldogs of course
  20. Who do you think will win State of Origin in 2016? NSW all day
  21. Final word, what piece of advice would you give to young Hornets who want to play Premiers one day? Its not always the best players that make it, you can have all the potential in the world but if your not willing to work for it you’re not going to get far. So in short train and play hard and who knows what you will achieve.
