The Halswell Hornets got a big haul of awards over the Senior and Junior CRL Prizegivings held on the first weekend of November. While CRL organised a fantastic dinner at Addington Raceway for the Senior Prizegiving on the Saturday night, the Juniors packed out the Papanui Tigers’ Clubrooms on the Sunday.

Although the Hornby Panthers won the majority of awards at the Senior Prizegiving, the Halswell Hornets still picked up a good haul! The awards received were as follows:

  • Massetti Cup (Premiers Minor Premiership)
  • AG Bailey Cup (Most Tries in the Season) – Erwin Sauni (shared with two others)
  • Poore Cup (Club with the Most Premiership Points)
  • Canterbury Development Team Most Valuable Player – Manu Weepu
  • Canterbury Development Team Rookie of the Year – Jason Galland

The Juniors’ CRL Prizegiving was doused with red, black and gold pride as the words “Halswell Hornets” were mentioned all throughout the afternoon! The awards received are as follows:

  • CRL Trophy for Best Presented 6yr Team
  • Ray Hira Shield for 13yr Player of the Year – Levi Morunga
  • St Thomas Trophy for 14yr Player of the Year – Joseph Taipari
  • E.W. Hoare Cup for 15yr Best Presented Team
  • Corliss Cup for 15yr Championship Winner
  • Thompson & Miles Cup for 15yr Grand Final Winners
  • Albie Clark Memorial Cup for 15yr Sportsman of the Year – Devon Harding
  • Trevor Williams Cup for 17yr Best Presented Team
  • Chas Clarkson Trophy for 17yr Grand Final Winners
  • CRL Mini Referee of the Year – Brooke Maxwell-Smith
  • Team with the Greatest Points Differential – Hornets 15yr (678 for and 90 against)
  • Taylor Shield for Club with Most Competition Points
  • NZ Masters Trophy for Dedicated Junior Club
  • Archie Stuart Trophy for CRL Junior Sportsman of the Year – Devon Harding

Congratulations to all the CRL Prizegiving individual award winners, and thank you to all those that helped the HRFLC to gather all the awards they did in 2013. We hope to see you all back in 2014 for an even bigger season!
