Philip Prescott and Darren Hayward were awarded Life Members at the 2020 Annual General Meeting. They received their Club crest and Life Membership book.

Philip Prescott

Phil has been a long standing member of our Club. He has been a junior player in the early days making his way to Premier status. Phil Captained our first premier winning side in 1985 in a close battle 17-16 against Hornby. He was quick to tally up the games and reached 100+ Games for Halswell.

Phil went on to coach Club and Representative teams. He was NZ A Coach ‘04, NZ Residents Coach ‘05, NZ A Coach ‘06, and Assistant Kiwi Coach in ‘07. Phil was awarded the Samsonite Most Outstanding Coach at the 2007 Sir Richard Hadley Sports Trust evening for the Canterbury Sports Awards.

Darren Hayward

From a young age Darren played through our junior teams, progressing to our senior grade. Darren went and studied and came back to our Club in a volunteer role as our Club Treasurer. He has been in this role for over 15 years navigating us financially though earthquakes and insurance settlements. He now has a new challenge with the rebuild of our Clubrooms starting.

Darren has worked hard for our Club and personally. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and is one of the Walker Davey Searells most experienced team members. In 2020, Darren was appointed at one of the Directors, leading a skilled and sort-after team. Darren celebrates 20 years with Walker Davey Searells in 2021.

On behalf of our Club

It is a true pleasure to be able to award these two a Life Membership for the dedication and support they have shown during their time with our Club. Our gratitude can not be measured but we hope that our members look up to our Life Members and strive to fulfil the expectation set by them all.
