2013 Premier Coach, Darrell Coad will take control of his chargers for the first time on the 2nd of March in a Preseason trial against the Northern Bulldogs at 2.45pm at the Halswell Domain. The 17th of February saw an internal Halswell Hornets Trial at the Halswell Domain, where a number of new and young players were put to the test against seasoned Premier and Premier Reserve players. Darrell Coad has named a squad of 21 players for the Northern Trial and the Annual CRL Pre-Season Tournament. The Premier Reserves, led by continuing coach Robbie Faalilo, will also have a trial on the 2nd of March at the Halswell Domain against the Riccarton Knight Premier Reserves side, with kick off at 1pm.

The CRL Pre-Season Tournament is a knock-out format competition consisting of three rounds. The Tournament will consist of three rounds on the 9th, 16th and 23rd of March. The Hornets finished runners-up in 2012, so get on down and support them at the Hornets Nest during the pre-season! Their draw is as follows:
