Closure of Clubrooms and the Gym

Notice of Closure – Main Clubrooms,

Gymnasium/Storage facility

Due to damage done in the 2010 and 2011 Earthquakes and changes to the NBS (National Building

Standards) we advise that the Main Clubrooms and the Gymnasium/Storage area do not meet the

minimum acceptable standards required for the Club to meet our Health and Safety obligations to

people who use these facilities.

After seeking legal opinion and advice on this matter, the Senior Committee, in consultation with

the Junior Club Captain, have decided that we have no option but to close the Main Clubrooms,

and the Gymnasium/Storage facility to all activities until further notice, effective immediately. We

will take steps to remedy this unfortunate situation and we will endeavour to keep club members

and groups that use the clubrooms and the gymnasium/storage facilities up to date with progress

towards being in a position to reopen these buildings for use in the near future. Until such time as

this work is completed and the buildings reopened, there is to be no unauthorised entry or use of

the clubrooms for any event. Lewis and Barrow Engineers have verbally indicated it is safe to use

changerooms area of the main building, but all other areas are “no-go” zones.

The committee has made this decision with the Health and Safety of all club members and groups

that use the clubrooms in mind.

Our insurers have been provided with Detailed Engineering Evaluations dated May 2015 for all 3

buildings, with our Re-Build Committee awaiting their reply.

Copies of DEE’s will also be forwarded to CERA for their records and comments. (It is the building

owner’s responsibility to notify CERA)

Any questions or inquiries relating to this notice should be directed to Ross Paniora (027 4893 700)

or Gerard Jordan (027 4321 349). Any questions relating to Junior football should be directed to

Tara Parker (027 3916 177) or Andy Clark (021 804 739).

Thank you for any consideration given to this matter and the Halswell Rugby Football League Club

committees will continue to work hard to ensure we provide you with a safe environment to

actively participate in all activities of the club.

Yours faithfully

Ross Paniora
